Acupuncture

At Baby Scene we’re here to support you throughout your pregnancy journey. Our latest service, acupuncture has been part of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) for thousands of years. It involves inserting fine needles into specific points on the skin or applying various other techniques to the acupuncture points to restore balance, stimulate blood flow and encourage the body to heal itself.

Acupuncture can be an excellent choice to address common pregnancy ailments safely and in a drug-free way. It can be used as a method to treat infertility issues in both men and women, as well as in preparation for IVF therapy. Acupuncture can even be used as a treatment for morning sickness, to facilitate labor and stimulate breastfeeding, as well as overcoming other postpartum issues like depression, weight loss and hormonal balance. TCM can also be used after a miscarriage or an ectopic pregnancy by increasing blood flow and balancing hormones to help prepare the body to become pregnant again. Using TCM, acupuncture and herbal treatments can improve blood flow into the reproductive organs and restore hormonal balance to the body.

The first treatment starts with a detailed consultation, recording past medical history. You will be asked about your current symptoms, your diet, digestion system, sleeping patterns and emotional state.

Acupuncture needles are much finer that needles used for injections and blood tests and are single-use disposable, stainless-steel type. They are inserted a few millimetres below the skin at chosen points along the channels of energy. The needles stay inserted for at least 10 minutes up to 30 minutes.

The sensation may be either dull or is described as tingling, with the intention of stimulating the bodyโ€™s own healing mechanism and help in restoring and maintaining its natural balance.

In addition to acupuncture, Gua Sha and/or Cupping Therapy may be performed, based on the client’s needs.

Gua Sha is the traditional Chinese medicine technique of gently scraping areas of the body with a smooth-edged tool with the aim to potentially reduce systemic inflammation, improve circulation, and increase range of motion to that area of the body.

Cupping Therapy is an ancient form of alternative medicine in which a therapist puts special cups on the skin for a few minutes to create suction. It’s used for many purposes, including to help with pain, inflammation, blood flow, relaxation and well-being, and as a type of deep-tissue massage.

After your initial consultation and first acupuncture session, an individualized treatment plan will be tailored to suit your needs.
